George Clooney lines up Bono, Sting, Timberlake for Haiti benefit gig

George Clooney is organising US worldwide telethon for earthquake survivors, taking a leaf from the book of Irish Charity hero – U2 lead singer Bono.

George C has recruited U2's Bono, Alicia Keys and Justin Timberlake to name but a few for a Haiti fundraising concert.

The actor revealed his plans (January 17th 2010) at the Golden Globes award ceremony in Los Angeles that Christina Aguilera and Sting will also perform at the Hope For Haiti gig he is currently organising.

The event, which takes place on January 22nd just days after the Haiti disaster, will be televised in US and some UK networks and will be hosted by Clooney and Haiti-born singer Wyclef Jean. It is refreshing to see someone like George Clooney making a stand and helping those in need – the publicity won’t hurt George Clooney’s profile much either!

The telethon aspect of the event, with a Children in Need style will raise money for Red Cross, Oxfam, Partners In Health and Jean's Yele Haiti Foundation, who are trying to bring aid to the country in the aftermath of last week's earthquake.

Arcade Fire's Regine Chassagne, who is of Haitian decent, made an appeal yesterday encouraging "support and solidarity" for the country after the natural disaster.

At the Q Radio Network and NMG, we wish the broadcast every success and hope that money is raised for this life saving cause.
